Gary Gas Price Patterns Standing Apart From Rest of Indiana

GasBuddy

GARY - Average retail gasoline prices in Gary have risen almost 6 cents per gallon in the past week, averaging $2.40/g yesterday, according to GasBuddy's daily survey of 314 gas outlets. This compares with the national average that has fallen 6 cents per gallon in the last week to $2.47/g, according to gasoline price website GasBuddy.com.

Senior petroleum analyst for GasBuddy.com Patrick DeHaan says Gary is standing out from most other cities in the state.

"Prices in Gary, really the only area across Indiana that's on increase, the statewide average in Indiana is down about .10 cents a gallon. Gary is up about a nickel."

DeHaan says Northwest Indiana saw some fluctuation in fuel prices recently, changes that were too quick for some Region gas stations to capitalize on.

"We saw a number of stations in Northwest Indiana jumping early, I should say mid last week because wholesale gas prices shot up, but many places didn't follow because the next day wholesale gas prices went right back down, so kind of an unlucky break in Northwest Indiana, but prices have already retreated in some areas back under $2.20 cents per gallon."

Including the change in gas prices in Gary during the past week, prices Sunday were just under 13 cents per gallon higher than the same day one year ago and are 15 cents per gallon lower than a month ago. The national average has decreased just over 19 cents per gallon during the last month and stands just over 21 cents per gallon higher than this day one year ago.

According to GasBuddy historical data, gasoline prices on October 9 in Gary have ranged widely over the last five years:
$2.27/g in 2016, $2.61/g in 2015, $3.24/g in 2014, $3.35/g in 2013 and $3.78/g in 2012.
