Today:  As state lawmakers plan to expand pre-kindergarten across the state, we look at a very successful program in Lake County:  the "Building Brickies" Early Learning Program in Hobart.  Laura Kovats with the School City of Hobart talked about the concept, adopted from a nationwide program that empowers parents to be their child's first and best teacher through research-based home visits, play groups, developmental screenings and community resources.

Michael Boos of the Association for the Wolf Lake Initiative tells us about the 14th annual Active Living Faire at Wolf Lake, this coming Saturday in both Hammond and in south Chicago.  The event is an opportunity to promote health and fitness and for residents to discuss ways to improve the bi-state watershed.

Lakeshore Public Radio's Sharon Jackson spoke with NICTD spokesman John Parsons about the environmental assessment of the South Shore Line "double tracking" project between Gary and Michigan City that is up for public comment next month in Gary's Miller neighborhood and in Michigan City.  Governor Holcomb's asked the Trump administration to set aside more than $400 million in the federal transportation budget for this mass transit expansion project.

And Phil Potempa with the Center for the Performing Arts in Munster joins us in the Lakeshore Public Radio studio to talk about a new series of tributes of artists and their music, beginning on October 22nd with a tribute to jazz-swing-pop singer Ella Fitzgerald..

Chris Nolte produces and hosts “Regionally Speaking” aired weekdays from noon to 1:00 p.m. He's also the temporary local "Morning Edition" host.
