Regionally Speaking, Wednesday, September 13, 2017

curbed magazine website

Today:  We get the latest on "ArtHouse: A Social Kitchen,"  the vision of Theaster Gates about three years ago which is now a very busy venue for artists and northwest Indiana residents can find progressive opportunities for collaboration.  Arleen Peterson is in the studio to talk about "ArtHouse" and all of its components including the culinary incubator that's brought life to several Gary-area business ideas. "ArtHouse" came to life with the help of the city of Gary's very first Knight Foundation Cities Challenge grant.

Liz Theodoros, the volunteer recruitment coordinator for the Lake County CASA program, also joins us to talk about the 37-year-old program set up under the supervision of Lake Superior Court, Juvenile Division that pairs volunteers with young people and their families who are going through issues in the courts.  These youngsters may be victims of abuse or are wards of the county and are overwhelmed by what they're experiencing.  Theodoros says volunteers get special training for their role as court-appointed special advocates and the next training sessions begin on September 19th in Crown Point.

Chris Nolte produces and hosts “Regionally Speaking” aired weekdays from noon to 1:00 p.m. He's also the temporary local "Morning Edition" host.
