"ArtHouse" Gives Gary Entrepreneurs A Chance To Bring Ideas To LIfe

YouTube

About two and one-half years ago, it was just an idea in the mind of Chicago entrepreneur Theaster Gates: a single building in the city of Gary that is a kitchen, a classroom, a cultural center and an art gallery.

Today, "ArtHouse: A Social Kitchen" is a very busy venue to which artists and northwest Indiana residents can turn for progressive opportunities to collaborate.

The director of "ArtHouse," Arleen Peterson, was on "Regionally Speaking" on Wednesday to talk about this remarkable project, made possible in part by the city of Gary's very first Cities Challenge grant from the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation.  Here's the conversation.

Chris Nolte produces and hosts “Regionally Speaking” aired weekdays from noon to 1:00 p.m. He's also the temporary local "Morning Edition" host.
