Indiana Black Legislative Caucus

Today:  the final Town Hall meeting in the statewide series of meetings set up by the Indiana Black Legislative Caucus is coming up this Saturday at Indiana University Northwest in Gary, so we bring back our conversation with State Senator Eddie Melton (D-Gary) and his Caucus colleague, State Senator Greg Taylor (D-Indianapolis). They talk about the entire Town Hall series and the Caucus' intentions for the comments they hear in creating new legislation.

We hear another conversation from the Welcome Project at Valparaiso University, this time from a young woman who says there's nothing wrong with being a "country girl."  And Indiana Public Broadcasting's NicK Janzen travels to Lowell, Indiana to find out more about solar energy investments made at a public school district may not happen elsewhere in the future.

The medical director of RecoveryWorks addiction center in Merrillville, Dr. Brent Jacobus, is in the studio to talk about the center, its work and his efforts -- both at the center and in private practice -- to help those dealing with addiction.  The Lake County Council recently honored Dr. Jacobus, in recognition of International Overdose Awareness Day coming up August 31st.

And the acting executive director of the Calumet Collaborative, Sarah Coulter, talks about her bi-state organization and its mission: to partner local government, business, non-profit and community groups in an effort to advance the Region.

Chris Nolte produces and hosts “Regionally Speaking” aired weekdays from noon to 1:00 p.m. He's also the temporary local "Morning Edition" host.
