Regionally Speaking, Monday, July 10, 2017

Town of Merrillville website

Today:  A conversation with Rob Vollrath of suburban Chicago-based Leopardo Energy, a firm that is working with the city of Hammond on an ambitious 14-month-long energy conservation project that -- Rob says -- guarantees the city will save up to $26 million in energy costs over 15 years.  The project includes energy conservation measures in all city-owned buildings as well as replacing current Hammond city vehicles with more energy-efficient ones.

Michelle Billick of Goodcall.com says the towns of Highland and Merrillville are on the list of Indiana communities on the 2017 "Best Cities for First Responders."  She'll tell us how they got on the list.

Lakeshore Public Radio's Steven Lattimore went into the "Arthouse: A Social Kitchen" in Gary recently, to find out how the culinary incubator is helping local businesses sustain and expand.

And we'll talk with Andy Downs of the Mike Downs Center for Politics at Indiana University-Purdue University Fort Wayne about summertime political topics -- mainly what Governor Eric Holcomb is doing these days and of the interest in influential State Senator Luke Kenley's position, now that he plans to retire this autumn.

"Eye on the Arts" focuses today on the Northwest Indiana Symphony Orchestra's 2017 Summer Music Festival, July 6 through 21.

Chris Nolte produces and hosts “Regionally Speaking” aired weekdays from noon to 1:00 p.m. He's also the temporary local "Morning Edition" host.
