Regionally Speaking, Monday, July 3, 2017

Purdue Univ. News Service

Today: A conversation with Ambassador Carolyn Curiel, executive director of the Purdue University Institute for Civic Communication, on the institute's final forum held in Washington, D.C.  It focused on how little Americans are taught about civics in our schools and, in turn, how little they really know about the subject. The Institute's funding comes to an end this year.

Lakeshore Public Radio's Steven Lattimore attended a public meeting introducing the "Ten Point Coalition" to residents in Gary -- an initiative that local clergy hope can bring peace to the streets of the Steel City.

And we have an at-length conversation with Jeff Good, the president of the Porter County Board of Commissioners, about the $30 million capital upgrade plan to address what Good says are the county's needs, not wants.  A bond issue and not property taxes would pay for this multi-point proposal to improve buildings, bridges and other county-owned properties.  The interest from the Porter County Foundation would pay off the bonds.

Chris Nolte produces and hosts “Regionally Speaking” aired weekdays from noon to 1:00 p.m. He's also the temporary local "Morning Edition" host.
