Places That Were website

Today:  Michigan City Area Schools Assistant Superintendent Wendel McCollum talks about the great accomplishments by the High School's Class 0f 2017, as recognized at recent commencement exercises. Those accomplishments include academic, athletic and community service.

We talk with the city of Gary's Director of Redevelopment and Planning Joe Van Dyk and Assistant Director of Planning, Sarah Kobetis, about the latest Knight Foundation Cities Challenge grant coming to the Steel City -- to transform the abandoned and decaying City Methodist Church into a ruins garden and event space.

The city's receiving a grant of about $163,000 in the 2017 grant program to begin work on the project. Ben Clement, the creator of a Website on the Gary City Methodist Church ruins, listened in on this conversation and he joins us to give us his views on the project.

And we asked Indiana University sports journalism professor Galen Clavio what he thinks the next major league sport might be -- and his answer may surprise you.

Chris Nolte produces and hosts “Regionally Speaking” aired weekdays from noon to 1:00 p.m. He's also the temporary local "Morning Edition" host.
