Regionally Speaking, Tuesday, May 30, 2017

U.S. Dept. of Veterans Affairs

Today:  Our monthly conversation with Tom Pappas, Jr. of the city of Portage Veterans Committee about next week's meeting and about a special Veterans Town Hall meeting on Wednesday, June 7th at the Adam Benjamin Outpatient Clinic in Crown Point.  The new Jesse Brown VA Medical Center Director, Marc Magill, will be at both meetings to talk to veterans about new programs planned in the Chicago area.

Dyer Police Department Detective Sergeant David Stein and his colleagues have created a podcast focusing on law enforcement entitled "Region Law."  He joins us to talk about it and about topics discussed, which include "cold cases."

Lakeshore Public Radio's Steven Lattimore has two reports today, one of them veterans-connected and the other related to the debate over immigration policy.  Steven talked with the organizers of a new Veterans of Foreign Wars post in Gary, the first new post in six years.  Steven also attended last Friday's latest protest of illegal immigrants flown out of the Gary-Chicago International Airport and has an on-scene report.

Chris Nolte produces and hosts “Regionally Speaking” aired weekdays from noon to 1:00 p.m. He's also the temporary local "Morning Edition" host.
