Today: Valerie Thorn, the executive director of the RecoveryWorks treatment facility in Merrillville, talks about the latest concerns that law enforcement, addiction treatment centers and the public face in the battle against opioids -- "gray death." It's a deadly concoction of gravel-like heroin that was first reported in Southern states and is spreading across the country. The drug is so powerful that it can be absorbed into the body by merely touching it. Thorn tells us about what facilities face in trying to deal with it and help people "kick the habit" and restore their lives.

And Lake County Solid Waste Management District executive director John Minear joins us to talk about next Tuesday's public informational meeting about a leaf and wood chips composting operation that is proposed along Iowa Street, on the south edge of Crown Point. At the site, leaves from the solid waste district's collection from unincorporated Lake County neighborhoods will be mixed with leaves and wood chips brought in by the Crown Point Street Department and Lake County Highway department trucks.
