Regionally Speaking, Tuesday, May 9, 2017

habitatfor humanity

Today:  Dan Klein, the executive director of Habitat for Humanity Northwest Indiana joins us to talk about the house being constructed in Lowell by volunteers -- most of them women -- who are involved in this year's National Women Build Week.  Volunteers got together recently to build the walls of the house, and they were transported to the site on North Castle Street for today's work.  Klein also talks about other local Habitat for Humanity building projects coming up.

Indiana Public Broadcasting's Lindsey Wright tells us how universities are preparing their students to better manage their money, once they are graduated and enter the workplace.  They're offering financial literacy programs.

And we talk with Donna Stuckert of the Recycling and Waste Reduction District of Porter County about several projects, including free compost loading for residents who visit the Valparaiso compost site this week and this weekend's first household hazardous waste collection program of the year (and the only discarded tire collection for the year).

Chris Nolte produces and hosts “Regionally Speaking” aired weekdays from noon to 1:00 p.m. He's also the temporary local "Morning Edition" host.
