One of Indiana's newest members of the General Assembly came into the Lakeshore Public Radio studios on Monday to talk about his first trip to Indianapolis to serve as a lawmaker and a bill he sponsored that started out his Indiana Legislature career.
State Senator Eddie Melton (D-Merrillville) talked about Senate Enrolled Act 567, signed into law by Governor Eric Holcomb, that helps the Gary Community School Corp. deal with its long-standing academic and financial problems. He started out this part of his conversation on "Regionally Speaking" with some background about the problems that some may or may not know very well.
Our conversation wasn't totally serious -- he spent time reflecting on all of the pre-session work he did to be ready to succeed a local legislative legend: Senator Earline Rogers.
You can hear the entire conversation on the "Regionally Speaking" podcast page.
