Regionally Speaking, Tuesday, April 11, 2017

Brandon Smith, IPBS

Today:  Northwest Indiana Times Statehouse reporter Dan Carden joins us for an update on what local legislators are working on, in the final days of the 2017 General Assembly session.

We also talk with Flint, Michigan activist Melissa Mays on her comments tonight at an environmental justice panel discussion in East Chicago.  The program follows an afternoon of demonstrations in Chicago against President Donald Trump's plans to make major budget cuts that could affect the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency -- at a time that there are serious problems with lead, arsenic, petcoke and manganese contamination across the Region.

Tami Silverman, the President and CEO of the Indiana Youth Institute, talks about issues surrounding child buse and neglect, during this Child Abuse and Neglect Awareness Month.  And "Quantum Leap SoundBites" asks the question: how does a kid from South Bend design lunar vehicles, if he's never been to the moon?

Chris Nolte produces and hosts “Regionally Speaking” aired weekdays from noon to 1:00 p.m. He's also the temporary local "Morning Edition" host.
