In it, Jerry looks into the political culture that involved secret handshakes, tapped telephone lines, backroom deals and -- in some cases -- murder.
Lake County Sheriff John Buncich talks about a testing program underway by his Lake County Jail medical staff, to find and to document inmates with HIV or Hepatitis C. Many have contracted the viruses through illegal intravenous drug use. About 400 inmates will be screened, with their consent, educated and directed to healthcare professionals if they are found to be infected. Sheriff Buncich says cases will also be documented and data sent on to the I.U. Fairbanks School of Public Health in Indianapolis.
And Lakeshore Public Radio's Steven Lattimore takes a look at this year's VITA income tax preparation service sponsored by the Urban League of Northwest Indiana. It offers residents a chance to have their tax returns done and filed, free of charge, by qualified volunteers.
