Regionally Speaking, Wednesday, March 22, 2017

Today:   A conversation with Purdue University Northwest assistant psychology professor Lori Petersen on her research into how preschoolers best learn how to count and related numerical concepts.  She began her study last fall with ten 3-year-olds who were enrolled at Purdue Northwest's Riley Child Center in Hammond.  Petersen talks about some of her early findings.

The Food Bank of Northwest Indiana is once again rolling out the details for the 7th annual "Pantry on the Go" program, co-sponsored by the Northwest Indiana McDonald's Owners Association.  It's scheduled to begin on March 29th in Valparaiso.  Food Bank executive director Steve Beekman joins us to talk about it.

Michelle Corazzo, a Valparaiso University art professor, has been coordinating the annual "Soup Bowls for the Hungry" fundraisers on campus and is on "Regionally Speaking" to talk about the next such event, scheduled for March 31st.   She explains how it started and which organization will benefit from the fundraising proceeds this year.

And Lakeshore Public Radio's Sharon Jackson talks with a spokesman for the Indiana Department of Homeland Security about the next distribution of all-hazard weather and emergency alert radios as  the spring severe storms season is about to begin.

Chris Nolte produces and hosts “Regionally Speaking” aired weekdays from noon to 1:00 p.m. He's also the temporary local "Morning Edition" host.
