Town Council President LeAnn Angerman says that this change is going to better the town and the school systems attendance.
She said the court has been successful, but formalizing it will bring additional tools for the judge and school system to use to strongly urge parents and guardians to encourage their children to attend school.
Currently, Tri-Creek's student handbook, given to all parents and guardians, lays out the attendance process, which takes steps to ensure they are informed when their students are absent from school. After nine days of unexcused absences, the students are placed on an attendance contract with parental knowledge.
Beyond that, the district attendance officer may refer the students and parents to attendance court.
