Regionally Speaking, Wednesday, March 15, 2017

north township trustee's office

Today:   North Township Trustee Frank Mrvan Jr. learned some shocking statistics on child sexual abuse in northwest Indiana -- and offers his personal reasons why he created the "No More Secrets" public awareness campaign.  He's speaking to students in local schools and other places this week and next, and is sponsoring a Saturday symposium on child sexual abuse at Purdue University Northwest in Hammond.

Lakeshore Public Radio's Steven Lattimore has a n updated report on the groups working to help East Chicago residents, young and old, deal with the lead contamination problems in that city.

I talked with a Houston pediatrician who heads up a national effort to insist that Immigration and Naturalization Services do more to protect vulnerable children caught up in the sweep of undocumented aliens.  Many of them are taken to pre-deportation detention centers that are ill equipped to handle them.

And we hear from Lakeshore Public Radio's Sharon Jackson about another positive sign of spring: beautiful music to be played at Ravinia this coming season.

Chris Nolte produces and hosts “Regionally Speaking” aired weekdays from noon to 1:00 p.m. He's also the temporary local "Morning Edition" host.
