There are jobs to be landed in Northwest Indiana.  That was proven recently at the Hammond Job Fair.  About one thousand prospective employees attended the event Thursday March 9th at the Hammond Civic Center.  Africa Tarver, Director of Economic Development with the city of Hammond says 84 companies were at the fair ready to talk to candidates.   She also says the event has experienced huge growth since Hammond's first job fair 14 years ago.  Tarver says she thinks the event is an important vehicle that addresses the hiring needs of Hammond and the surrounding communities and in that it gives job seekers an opportunity to go to one place and speak face-to-face with potential employers.

Dan Kiepura, Director of Roofing Operations for Korellis Roofing, one of the organizations that took part in the job fair, says typically the company hires through its Union Hall, but Korellis is now taking its own initiative to find candidates.

WorkOne Manager, Rich Sapper says his company's role is focused on helping to make important connections.

The Hammond job fair was a partnership between the City of Hammond, WorkOne, the North Township Trustees office and ResCare.
