Today: Tri-Creek School Corporation in south Lake County is the recipient of a March "Innovators Award" from the Society of Innovators in Northwest Indiana. Superintendent Debra Howe joins us to talk about the programs that led to the award, beginning with a student-pilot project on solar energy that led to a district-wide program and will save tens of thousands of dollars in energy costs each year -- more than enough to cover the cost of the project.
Sarah Highlen, the board president of the Northwest Indiana Food Council, talks about Wednesday's day-long event called "FED: Food Expo and Discussion." It's being held at County Line Orchard in Porter County. The inaugural program's theme is "Cultivating Connections," which refers to networking, learning and collaborative opportunities the event provides about topics like urban farm projects.
The Times of Northwest Indiana business reporter Joseph Pete joins us to talk about the top business stories of the Region, including the local steel industry and the impact of changes in the local economy on the shopping malls and supermarket industry.
And Lakeshore Public Radio's Sharon Jackson has a report from her reporter's notebook -- which she brought along while on vacation -- about how Mexicans and other Latinos feel about the current immigration policy in the United States.
