A Hammond native and communication professor at Purdue University's West Lafayette campus is being recognized by a major media publication as one of the nation's top journalism educators.
Ambassador Carolyn Curiel was named by Crain's NewsPro as one of the top journalism educators in the nation. Crain’s NewsPro selected Curiel from among educators nominated by top practitioners.
I talked at length with Ambassador Curiel (she really is a former U.S. Ambassador to Belize) for "Regionally Speaking" on Wednesday about her roots in northwest Indiana, what inspired her to become a journalist and, later, an educator and founder of the Purdue Institute for Civic Communication.
The PICC is -- according to its website -- "a non-partisan, university-wide center dedicated to providing students with learning experiences in and about the real world."
