Today: Clarence Hulse, Executive Director of the Economic Development Corp. of Michigan City, talks about a proposal to transform a section of Franklin Street in the downtown district into a public plaza, "a community space for concerts, shows, exhibitions, vendors, street musicians and other activities." A petition on Change.org is asking for citizen support of the project before the city's Redevelopment Commission.
Lakeshore Public Radio's Steven Lattimore tells us about a local group that supports Syrian refugees coming into the U.S. despite President Trump's recent executive order prohibiting their access.
Highland town Redevelopment Commission President Greg Kuzmar joins us to talk Monday night's Town Council review of a request for bond authority to cover part of the cost of the proposed Town Theatre renovation. The overall project will transform the area along Kennedy Avenue into an entertainment district that, Kuzmar says, can lead to even further development and neighborhood improvements. A 501 (c)(3) group, and not the town government, will be in charge of day-to-day operations at the transformed Town Theatre.
