Today: Lake County Sheriff John Buncich reviews the Lake County Drug Task Force report for 2016, what he calls the most successful year on record: more than $1 million in illegal drugs seized, nearly 400 felony and misdemeanor charges filed against individuals and the identification of nearly 100 gang members.
Sheriff Buncich notes that the most significant drug bust of the year was that of the uncovering of a drug trafficking operation near Crown Point High School.
Indiana Public Broadcasting's Peter Balanon-Rosen has a report on whether Indiana lawmakers will take up the issue of a teacher evaluation law this session.
And we begin our series of conversations with the three finalists from Gary in this year's John S. and James L. Knight Foundation "Cities Challenge" grant competition. Alex Koerner and Sam Salveson are in charge of the Gary Ruins Garden Project -- transforming the ruins of an abandoned downtown church into an attractive garden spot and events venue.
The Knight Foundation announces its choice for the $250,000 grant later this spring. The Cities Challenge is a national call for ideas to make the 26 communities where the Foundation invests more vibrant places to live and work.
