Join The Nature Conservancy for a special celebration of bison at Kankakee Sands on Saturday, November 2 – National Bison Day! This FREE family-friendly event celebrates the ecological, cultural and historical contribution of the American bison to the United States. Nearly 100 buffalo currently roam the prairie at Kankakee Sands, serving as natural land stewards.

The event runs from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. CT. There will be early morning bird watching, yoga on the prairie, nature-based crafts and of course bison tours! This event also serves as an unveiling of recent upgrades made to the preserve. Be sure to check out our new signage, bison viewing platforms, and visitor pavilions with restrooms.
