March 1 – April 27
Opening Reception
March 1st, 3 pm - 6 pm
The Rising Phoenix Gallery is honored to present Roma: Art and Artifacts, an extraordinary exhibition by artist and architect Matthew Kubik. This captivating showcase offers a rare glimpse into over 50 years of artistic exploration and architectural study in Rome, Italy.
Kubik’s journey with Rome began as a college student, living and sketching among its ancient ruins, Renaissance masterpieces, and Baroque grandeur. His deep connection to the Eternal City continued throughout his career as a professor of architecture at Purdue University, where for more than two decades, he led educational tours through Rome, guiding students through the city’s rich history and architectural wonders. Now retired from academia, Kubik continues his passion for cultural education through his own tour company, bringing new generations of travelers to experience Rome’s artistic and historical legacy firsthand.
This exhibit highlights a lifetime of sketches, studies, and reflections on Roman art and architecture. From detailed architectural drawings capturing the timeless beauty of the Colosseum and St. Peter’s Basilica to quick, expressive sketches of daily life in Roman piazzas, each piece offers a window into Kubik’s artistic vision and deep understanding of the city’s built environment. His work bridges the past and present, documenting Rome’s enduring influence on art, design, and human experience.
Roma: Art and Artifacts aligns perfectly with the Rising Phoenix Gallery’s mission to support and showcase both emerging and established artists, offering the community a chance to engage with art that tells a profound and personal story. Visitors will be transported to Rome through Kubik’s eyes, experiencing the city’s grandeur, texture, and ever-changing light through his masterful sketches.
This exhibit is free and open to the public during gallery hours: Thursday through Sunday, 12 PM – 6 PM. Don’t miss this opportunity to immerse yourself in a lifetime of artistic exploration and celebrate the intersection of art, architecture, and travel with Matthew Kubik’s Roma: Art and Artifacts.
