MUSICAL GUEST: Bluesman JOHNNY BURGIN
This edition of the “Midwest BEAT with Tom Lounges” radio program features a great interview with international bluesman JOHNNY BURGIN, a native of South Carolina who relocated to Chicago to attend college and soon after gained fame in neighborhood blues joints on Chicago's West Side playing with Howlin' Wolf disciple Tail Dragger, and later touring with such blues legends as Pinetop Perkins, Sam Lay and Billy Boy Arnold.
Burgin earned the nickname The Worldwide West Side Guitar Man by performing up to 250 live shows each year while crisscrossing the U.S., Europe and Japan.
Burgin's newly released "NO BORDER BLUES JAPAN" was recorded with session players who are some of the best Japanese blues players in the business. The Stephanie Tice-produced album was made available to fans last month via Delmark Records.
Many of the songs from Burgin's new 11-song collection will be heard as Burgin joins in discussing the recording, the songs, his career and the performance he is bringing this Sunday (July 12) to Elements Wine Bar in downtown Valparaiso, Indiana.
