This edition of "MIDWEST BEAT with Tom Lounges" was originally aired on 89.1FM - Lakeshore Public Radio on January 29, 2019.
For this program, virtuoso guitarist and primary vocalist JEFF MASSEY of THE STEEPWATER BAND paid a visit to the 89.1-FM Lakeshore Public Radio's studio in Merrillville to perform a handful of songs live in studio and talk about his career as a global touring artist as that night's guest on “Midwest BEAT with Tom Lounges.”
Massey performed a brand new song live on the air that had never been played out in public before and talked for the first time publically about his upcoming solo acoustic album, which he anticipates will be release sometime in Spring of this year.
Massey also talked about the brotherhood vibe between his band mates, including the instant chemistry with their latest member, and about songwriting, personal influences and some memories and "pinch me" moments from the band's world travels spent sharing stages with some of the world's most successful and respected bands, including -- Savoy Brown, Govt. Mule, Bad Company, Deep Purple, Bon Jovi.
Massey has earned the respect of many of his blues and rock heroes, and is now considered a musical peer by them. During this interview, Massey recalls times spent jamming on stage with the likes of Buddy Guy, Pinetop Perkins, Kim Simmonds, and others.
After nearly a year-long hiatus, Massey reports that The Steepwater Band is back in action performing and also writing songs for a new full length album of original music that remains untitled for now, but that he and the band hopes will be recorded and ready for release before the end of 2019.
