Doo Wop Greats from The Drifters, The Spaniels, Shades of Blue & Stormy Weather

This edition of “MIDWEST BEAT with Tom Lounges”  originally aires on TUESDAY, OCT. 17, 2017

In-Studio Guests: HENRY FARAG of Stormy Weather & BILLY SHELTON of The Spaniels Forever

Call In Guests: CHARLIE THOMAS of The Drifters & SCOTT AVIG of Shades of Blue

Guest co-host HENRY FARAG of vocal group STORMY WEATHER joined host Tom Lounges in chatting with some legendary pioneers of rock 'n' roll's doo-wop era!

Tunes were played from the solid gold catalogs of The Drifters, The Skyliners, The Spaniels, The Vogues, and The Cookies, who were among the artists performing at Canterbury Productions' "Ultimate Doo-Wop Show" on Friday, October 20th at Merrillville's Star Plaza Theatre.   The 10 legendary groups appearing on Star Plaza's stage for that concert, have collectively sold over 200 million records.

This show is dedicated to the memory of The Skyliners' founder and lead vocalist JIMMY BEAUMONT, who was to have been a guest on this program, only he passed away unexpectedly at his home just ten days prior, on October 7, 2017.   Beaumont was 76 years old.

Tom Lounges has been a region radio personality and a music journalist since 1979. For the last 35-years, he has been reporting on entertainment as a weekly columnist and feature writer for The Times newspaper. He was also publisher and editor of the monthly tri-state entertainment magazine ("Midwest BEAT Magazine") for over two decades, he has written hundreds of features for numerous national glossy magazines over the decades, and he wrote "Liner Notes" for over a dozen albums release by Sony Records.
