Derek Shulman of GENTLE GIANT on Prog-Rock and His Group's New "Three-Piece Suite"

This edition of  “MIDWEST BEAT with Tom Lounges” was orginally broadcast on TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 26, 2017

Musical Guest:

DEREK SHULMAN of Gentle Giant

Iconic British prog-rock band GENTLE GIANT is spotlighted on this program in honor of their new release -- "Gentle Giant: Three-Piece Suite" shipping worldwide on September 29.

Music from the new release is featured on the program as GENTLE GIANT founder/member DEREK SHULMAN chats with host Tom Lounges and tonight's special guest co-host Gregg Kovach, one of Lounges' radio industry friends and a huge fan of prog-rock.

"Gentle Giant: Three Piece Suite" -- is a collaboration of songs and compositions from the band’s first three albums ("Giant," "Acquiring the Taste," "Three Friends") presented in both 5.1 surround sound and stereo. There are nine tracks from the albums, plus a previously commercially unreleased song “Freedom’s Child” taken from the band's first recording sessions with legendary producer Tony Visconti.

The group was recent inducted into the Portsmouth "Guildhall’s Wall of Fame" in their native England.  The GENTLE GIANT lads now share that honor alongside such other famous Brits as Edgar Allen Poe, Charles Dickens, Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, Rudyard Kipling, and fellow rocker Roger Hodgsen (of Supertramp).

Tom Lounges has been a radio personality and music journalist since 1979. For the last 43 years, Tom has been reporting on entertainment as a weekly music columnist and feature writer for The Times newspaper.
