ROGER McGUINN: Folk Singer, Writer, Historian & Legend

This edition of “MIDWEST BEAT with Tom Lounges” originally aired TUESDAY, MAY 30, 2017

MUSICAL GUEST:

ROGER McGUINN Co-Founder of The Byrds

The musical guest this week has been a part of the American musical fabric for five decades.  Although most music fans know ROGER McGUINN for his work as co-founder of the iconic mid-1960s folk-rock band, THE BYRDS, the Chicago native who honed his chops in Old Town, had quite a few years invested in performing music prior to taking the world "Eight Miles High."

A "Rock-N-Roll Hall of Fame" inductee, ROGER McGUINN will discuss his roots in Chicago, where he honed his craft and joined his first band; along with conversations about working with BOB DYLAN and TOM PETTY, his post-BYRDS solo career, the "almost Byrds reunion" of McGUINN, CLARK & HILLMAN, and his work as a dedicated Folk Music archivist and preservationist via the Folk Den Project.

Northwest Indiana's Brightside Music brings ROGER McGUINN back to the region on Saturday, June 3, for the artist's  third appearance at Memorial Opera House in Valparaiso, where he will offer up a fantastic evening of stories, hit songs, and a few "chestnuts" from his deep catalog.

This is Roger's second guest appearance on "Midwest BEAT with Tom Lounges," and along with some great conversation with this musical icon, Tom Lounges will be featuring a handful of great songs from the rich McGuinn/Byrds catalog!

Tom Lounges has been a radio personality and music journalist since 1979. For the last 43 years, Tom has been reporting on entertainment as a weekly music columnist and feature writer for The Times newspaper.
