Have you heard of Brothers Keeper shelter in Gary for homeless men across NWI? It’s housed in a beaten-down building that once sold tires, not soulful redemption.

I visited the cash-strapped, space-crunched, volunteer-starved shelter and spoke with its longtime director, Mary Edwards, a dedicated volunteer, Mike McDonald of Chesterton, and a grateful client, Levi Gildon, who credits the place for saving his life.

But the shelter desperately needs your help, and we'll tell you how on today’s show by talking with Levi, Mary and Mike. Our listeners have always come through for people and organizations in need, and we’re hoping that they - you - can make a difference in this shelter, which marks its 31st year in operation this month.

Later in the show, we’ll chat with Chris Kosovich from St. Sava Serbian Orthodox Church in Merrillville about its youth folklore dance group that will be featured right here on Lakeshore Public TV this weekend. AND how you can join in the fun.

And we will touch on the touching 9/11 memorial in New York City where Dan Clark recently visited, and Jerry’s column today in the Post Tribune about our favorite TV show, “This Is Us” and how it offers us a shelter from the storms of the political climate these days.

Finally, the first shipment of my new book, "Crooked Politics in NWI" has arrived, and everyone who ordered a signed copy will receive it today or tomorrow. And, as promised, I will read an excerpt from the book, an exclusive for Lakeshore listeners.

Plus, we’ll give you a sneak peek at Jerry’s Monday column on how turning 100 years old these days isn’t as newsworthy as it once was.
