Dr. Gina Bartucci talks about mindfulness with Lakeshore Public Radio's Sarah Opat. Bartucci is a clinical psychologist in Chicago who implements mindfulness and meditation programs in groups. The simple act of using mindfulness allows our brains to live our lives more fully.
Mindfulness is using a non-judgmental attitude when noticing thoughts. A great way to start being mindful is taking 3 deep breathes. This act is simply focusing on how the breath feels when inhaling and when releasing. When a thought arises (trust me, it will) notice the thought and allow yourself to come back to how it feels to breathe. Continue this practice when need be. Let go of any judgment and congratulate yourself for making this a priority for your well being.
