PETER ASHER: The British Music Icon -- Then and Now!

Originally broadcast on  TUESDAY, JANUARY 17, 2017

Guest: PETER ASHER

On this edition of the program, Tom Lounges' guest musician is British rock icon of the 1960s, PETER ASHER, half of the famous folk/pop duo Peter & Gordon (“Lady Godiva,” “A World Without Love,” etc.).  This was Peter's second guest appearance on "Midwest BEAT with Tom Lounges" in as many years.

Asher chats not about his colorful past as part of the British Invasion era, but also about his years with Apple Records, his work with artists like James Taylor and Linda Ronstadt, and some of his latest projects.   Among those is producing the original cast recording for the 2016 Broadway production of “Bright Star,” featuring Steve Martin and Edie Brickell.

Asher is currently on a solo tour billed as —“Peter Asher: A Musical Memoir of the 60s and Beyond” — which brought him to one of Lounges' favorite music venues -- The Acorn Theater in Three Oaks, MI -- for a January 27, 2017 performance.  .

A smattering of songs from throughout Asher’s career will be featured -- from the ’60s Peter & Gordon hits to a couple of recent tunes from the Asher-produced Broadway cast recording of the hit musical “Bright Star.”

Tom Lounges has been a radio personality and music journalist since 1979. For the last 43 years, Tom has been reporting on entertainment as a weekly music columnist and feature writer for The Times newspaper.
