DONALD KINSEY: Midwest Beat Career Spotlight - Part One

Originally broadcast on TUESDAY, JAN. 3, 2017

MUSICAL GUEST:     DONALD KINSEY: CAREER SPOTLIGHT — PART 1

For this broadcast —“Midwest BEAT with Tom Lounges” — welcomed Northwest Indiana’s blues and reggae guitar great, DONALD KINSEY (of The Kinsey Report fame) into the Lakeshore Public Radio Studio to discuss his long career — from his early days of playing Northwest Indiana clubs and lodges, to playing in ALBERT KING‘s touring band, to his own hard rock power trio WHITE LIGHTNING, and his family’s musical bond.

The main focus for this two-part series is Kinsey’s recording and touring work with reggae giants BOB MARLEY and PETER TOSH, and his still ongoing work with THE WAILERS. Kinsey brings his guitar along to perform in-studio. This week’s program takes the audience from Gary, Indiana to the island of Jamaica, where bullets nearly ended both Marley and Kinsey’s lives.

Tonight’s PART ONE  wraps up with the BOB MARLEY-era of Kinsey’s career.   Next week’s program (PART TWO) will pick up with Kinsey joining PETER TOSH‘s group, going on tour with THE ROLLING STONES, and his recent return to making music with Marley’s legendary group TEH WAILERS, performing at the recent opening of the PETER TOSH MEMORIAL MUSEUM in Jamaica, and his upcoming performance with Tosh’s son, ANDREW TOSH.
