IN-STUDIO GUEST: GENE STEWART
HALL OF FAMER BRINGS SAM COOKE'S SONGS TO THE LAKESHORE
IN-STUDIO GUEST: GENE STEWART with special guest The Spaniels
GENE STEWART — brother of late ’80s pop hit-maker, Jermaine Stewart — is equally comfortable singing R&B, Gospel or pop music. A seasoned artist and performer, Stewart has spent several decades in the industry as a performer, songwriter, producer, and founder of his own record label, Bound For Glory Records.
Gene has released a trio of solo albums and has performed in some of the top music venues in America — New York’s Apollo Theater and Beacon Theater, The Kennedy Center in Washington, DC, and The Chicago Theatre, to name but a few — along with having toured Europe.
Along with maintaining his solo career, Stewart is also a member of two famous Chicago vocal groups — THE SPANIELS FOREVER and Rock And Roll Hall of Fame and Gospel Music Hall Of Fame inductees, THE SOUL STIRRERS (who along with their own catalog of Gospel records, were R&B legend Sam Cooke‘s backing vocal group). That group’s connection to Cooke, and his deep respect for the late music icon, has inspired Stewart’s latest solo project — “A Tribute To The Music of Sam Cooke.”
Stewart was joined live in studio by the other members of THE SPANIELS FOREVER — Billy Shelton, Dan Porter and Patrick Petrie, and guitarist Pernel Davis of Stewart’s backing band, Solid Players — for some live in studio performances of Sam Cooke songs.
