IN-STUDIO GUESTS: Bluesmen DOKTU RHUTE (aka Roy Hytower) & BOB MANDARINO with surprise phone guest: BILLY SHELTON of The Spaniels
On this night we really got to bluesin” it up on The Lakeshore! The in-studio guests were DOKTU RHUTE (aka ROY HYTOWER), a renowned Blues artist and a successful actor of stage and screen. Rhute is one of the few remaining connections to the Muddy Waters-era of great Chicago Blues. Joining DOKTU RHUTE in-studio was Northwest Indiana blues jam master BOB MANDARINO.
The topics of discussion were DOKTU RHUTE‘s colorful career as we showcased some of his recordings from over the years and also jammed live in the studio with a handful of songs. Of special note, was when Rhute got the radio show’s producer/host Tom Lounges, board engineer Dan Clark, show intern Elise Phillips and well-known blues photographer Connie Carroll joining in on singing the chorus on Rhute’s snappy classic, “Goin’ To Mobile.”
Also joining the show by phone as a surprise guest was BILLY SHELTON of THE SPANIELS, who was patched in live to chat just as the conversation turned to RHUTE/HYTOWER‘s time as the resident guitar player for the iconic Doo-Wop/R&B Vocal group. Some great memories and stories were shared with the listeners by the two veteran music legends live on air. Making this truly some GREAT radio!
Also discussed was Rhute’s participation in BOB MANDARINO‘s “All Star Blues Revues;” some of the best live blues shows and jams in the region. The All-Star Blues Revue happens weekly at The Pour House in Demotte, Indiana. Hit up Bob Mandarino’s Facebook Page — www.facebook.com/bob.mandarino — for weekly updates and details.
