February is Black History Month and in respect to that, each February installment of the weekly program, “Midwest BEAT with Tom Lounges,” has been part of a month-long series with guest co-hosts and live performers spotlighting the evolution of Black Music in America.
Co-hosting TONIGHT‘s segment — “JAZZ: From Ragtime to Post-Bop & Cool Jazz” — is BILLY FOSTER — a respected pianist, composer, educator, radio show host and producer. Over the past 35 years, Mr. Foster has performed across the U.S. He has written and produced recordings with his own groups as well as with the Valparaiso University Jazz Faculty Trio, and he is the producer/host of the local radio program, “Billy Foster Jazz Zone” (on WGVE/88.7FM in Gary).
Louis Armstrong, Duke Ellington, Miles Davis, Charlie Parker, Dizzy Gillespie and others will be part of the conversation as host Tom Lounges and Mr. Foster discuss some of the real movers and shakers of Jazz and how some of the various sub-genres came to be, with musical selections from some of these great artists and other played to illustrate.
