The port at Burns Harbor set another record for annual shipments in 2022. Ports of Indiana says it announced its year-end totals during last week's quarterly meeting.
The Burns Harbor port on Lake Michigan handled 3.45 million tons last year, a two-percent increase from 2021 and its second consecutive record. The port authority says Burns Harbor also set records for foundry coke, minerals and steel cargoes.
Ports of Indiana CEO Jody Peacock said in a statement that the industry is still recovering from economic and supply chain shortages — but the continued growth in shipments is a good sign, and they expect more growth in the future. Ports of Indiana's plans for future projects include the construction of three shipping berths and a bulk warehouse at Burns Harbor.
