A mobile home fire left one person injured and claimed the life of a dog Wednesday.
Liberty Township Firefighters say they were called to the Liberty Farms Mobile Home Park on U.S. 6 around 2:30 p.m. When they got there, firefighters saw heavy fire coming from the rear of the trailer.
Three firefighting teams were used to help put out the fire and provide protection to a nearby home. Assistant Fire Chief Michael Wineland estimates about 10,000 gallons of water was used in the operation, and tankers were used to shuttle it in.
One person was taken to the hospital for burns and smoke inhalation, after unsuccessfully trying to get a dog out of the home.
Investigators say the home was not supposed to be occupied, and the cause of the fire remains under investigation.
