Valparaiso High School was placed on lockdown Monday, while police investigated a potential bomb threat.

Valparaiso Police say they were notified of the threat just after 8:30 a.m. It claimed that "an explosive device had been placed in a specific location within the school."

The Porter County Sheriff's Office, Valparaiso Police Department and Valparaiso Fire Department were called to the school, and students were asked to stay in their classrooms.

Police say emergency responders determined that the threat was not credible, and students and staff were not in danger. But students were sent home around 10:45 a.m., due to "the level of disruption for students and staff."

Police say they continue working with school administrators to investigate the incident and identify those responsible.
