Two Region charter schools have gotten state funding to boost their STEM education efforts. East Chicago Lighthouse Charter was awarded $43,875 in STEM Integration Grant funding. Gary Lighthouse Charter School got just over $44,200.
The STEM Integration Grant seeks to improve students' access to science, technology, engineering and math instruction by helping schools with coursework, instructional materials and professional development.
It replaces the STEM Acceleration Grant, which was launched in the 2018-2019 school year. The Indiana Department of Education awarded a total of almost $2.2 million to 48 schools in the latest grant round.
