Valparaiso residents are calling on the city to step up traffic enforcement, after a crash near Cooks Corner Elementary School left a mother and her daughter injured Monday morning.
Tom Davis told the city council that night that Valparaiso has a serious problem with speeders and drivers not stopping for people in crosswalks. "We really need to do something. You need to step up, get the police out monitoring traffic, issuing tickets, before someone gets killed," Davis said.
Wayne Adams III, 51, is charged with multiple felony counts, after police say he hit the two pedestrians while they were crossing Bullseye Lake Road. The Times reports he was found to be more than twice the legal limit for alcohol. Court documents say the woman suffered multiple fractures and had to be transferred to a Chicago hospital, while her six-year-old daughter had a bump on her head and a sprained thumb.
