The city of Gary has officially been designated a Broadband Ready Community. The designation was announced Tuesday by Lieutenant Governor Suzanne Crouch and the Indiana Broadband Office, following the city's adoption of a Broadband Ready Community ordinance earlier this year. As part of the process, the city agrees to reduce barriers for broadband projects.
In a statement, Mayor Jerome Prince called the Broadband Ready designation another step in Gary's efforts to provide affordable broadband coverage for all of its residents. He noted that the city has also made licensing and permitting services available online.
Lieutenant Governor Crouch congratulated city leaders, and said “It is communities like Gary that are trailblazing and making a difference within the connectivity space."
