Lake Central teachers are set to get a pay raise. The collective bargaining agreement approved by the school board Monday includes a $2,000 raise for teachers rated "effective" or "highly effective" and a minimum salary of $53,000 for new teachers.
Other than the raises, Superintendent Dr. Larry Veracco said few changes were made to the teacher contract, to keep it in line with Indiana Education Employment Relations Board standards.
The school board also approved raises for support staff, but board member Dr. Janice Malchow said she'd like paraprofessionals to get more attention in the future. "That's my concern is what we can do to solidify that group so there's consistency and they're well-trained and all that. That may be very difficult to do, but I appreciate your attempts at it," Malchow said.
