Valparaiso is working to ease the traffic impact of the Brooks at Vale Park development. The board of works last week agreed to hire engineering firm DLZ to design traffic calming measures for Vale Park Road though the existing Keystone Commons subdivision.
Chief Deputy Engineer Matt Zurbriggen told board members the engineering work is expected to cost up to almost $73,000. "We also met with Keystone Commons residents to get their feedback on what they would like to see back in July. So we provided our input as well as their input to DLZ to get a professional services agreement to implement those design features to slow the traffic down," Zurbriggen explained.
But on the other side of the Brooks, traffic calming measures in the Beauty Creek Villas subdivision are proving to be more expensive than expected. The two construction quotes opened last week came in around $236,000 and $348,000 — well above the $140,000 engineer's estimate. Zurbriggen wanted more time to review the quotes before making a recommendation on how to proceed.
