Local leaders are reacting to the sudden death of U.S. Representative Jackie Walorski (R-Jimtown). The congresswoman from northern Indiana was killed in a car crash in Elkhart County Wednesday.
First District Congressman Frank Mrvan (D-Highland) remembered his "Indiana colleague and Congressional-district neighbor" for "her consistent friendship, example of public service, and openness to conversation." He said in a statement that he's grateful for their "all too brief shared time together in the U.S. House of Representatives."
State Senator Ed Charbonneau (R-Valparaiso) called Walorski a longtime friend, saying she "was a genuinely good person who was always willing to stand for her convictions and fight for the causes she believed in."
State Senator Rick Niemeyer (R-Lowell) said her "service to Indiana was unquestionable."
Governor Eric Holcomb has directed flags to be flown at half-staff.
