Gary leaders are planning their response to gun violence, after what police are calling "a terrible night" in the city. Gary Police say they responded to four shootings in five minutes Monday afternoon.
Officers believe two 18-year-old men were shot in the 1800 block of Carolina Street. A 26-year-old man was reportedly shot at a gas station in the 2300 block of Grant Street, and a 36-year-old man was found with gunshot wounds at a home in the 1600 block of East 7th Avenue.
But police say they got another nine reports of gunshot victims that turned out to be false. Officers believe the shootings were targeted. They say "no one is driving through Gary randomly shooting at residents."
The incidents came less than a week after three people were killed and seven more were hurt in a shooting at what police believe was a holiday block party.
On Wednesday, the Gary City Council's Public Safety Committee will meet with law enforcement officials and other local leaders for a discussion they're calling "Gun Violence in Gary: A United Plan of Action." The meeting starts at 6:00 p.m. in the City Hall council chambers.
