A Munster Police officer was hurt in a crash on Ridge Road Wednesday night. Indiana State Police say Officer Bradley Riemerts was trying to catch up to a speeding vehicle, when a pickup truck turning from Beech Avenue pulled in front of him. The impact sent the police SUV into a utility poll, trapping Officer Riemerts in the vehicle.
He was taken to the hospital with serious injuries but is expected to make a full recovery. Police say the driver of the pickup truck complained of pain but didn't have to be taken to the hospital.
The vehicle that Riemerts was trying to pull over got away.
