NIRPC seeks input on transportation plan update

Making it easier for Northwest Indiana residents to make more trips by walking, biking or transit is one of the goals of the region's latest transportation planning effort. The Northwestern Indiana Regional Planning Commission (NIRPC) is updating its NWI 2050 plan for Lake, Porter and LaPorte counties, and it wants residents to share what transportation issues are affecting their daily lives.

Public outreach events will be held Tuesday at the Michigan City Public Library, Wednesday at Chesterton Town Hall and Thursday at the Dean and Barbara White Community Center in Merrillville. Each open house will take place from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m.

NIRPC says the transportation plan guides how federal money will be spent on transportation projects. Federal law requires an update every four years.
