The closure of State Road 2 in Porter County is moving to the next phase. As soon as Friday, the intersection with Horse Prairie Avenue/Smoke Road will mostly reopen, but the Indiana Department of Transportation says minor work will continue in the northeast corner.
But State Road 2 will be closed over Sager Run, just south of U.S. 30, as crews replace a box culvert. That work's expected to take six to eight weeks. Once that's done, State Road 2 will be closed over Wolf Creek between Porter County roads 450 and 500 West for another box culvert replacement.
While all of that's going on, resurfacing on State Road 2 continues between U.S. 30 and U.S. 231 through late October. INDOT says drivers can expect delays of up to 20 minutes where crews are working. The official detour uses U.S. 30, State Road 49, and State Road 8.
Meanwhile in Lake County, 45th Avenue will be closed between Ralston Place and Ross Road Friday for utility work. The Lake County Highway Department says the closure will last from 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., weather permitting. Drivers can use Calhoun, 41st and Ross as a detour.
