The Porter County Animal Shelter has gotten a major financial boost.
"Over the last, I'd say, six to eight months, we have received three rather large donations, due to being named a beneficiary in some Porter County citizens' wills," Shelter Director Toni Bianchi recently told the county commissioners.
The three donations totaled over a million dollars, with one donation alone for $875,000
Commissioner Jeff Good called the donations great news. "Congratulations for all the work you guys are doing out there. That's huge! That's just big!" Good said.
The animal shelter plans to use up to $65,000 for supplies and building maintenance — including stronger fencing that's harder for dogs to bite through.
